Student Resources

Welcome to MREA’s training programs!

Thank you for choosing the MREA as your trusted renewable energy training provider. Here you will find information and resources to help answer any questions you may have about training with the MREA.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are MREA’s cancellation and refund policies?

Cancellation policies vary depending on the course format (in-person or online) and the timing of the cancellation. Generally, cancellations made more than two weeks prior to an in-person course incur a $25 processing fee. Cancellations made less than two weeks before the start date forfeit 50% of the course fee. No refunds are issued for failure to attend or complete a course. Online course cancellation fees apply after one week of registration.

What are the policies regarding access to my course, deadlines, and grading for online courses?

Once registered for online course(s), students must begin the coursework within 30 days to retain access. If students do not start the course within 30 days, they will forfeit the registration fee.

  • Once courses are completed your access will expire within 30 days. Download any course materials and completion certificate before your access expires.
  • Assignments submitted outside of regular business hours may not be graded until the start of the next business day.
  • MREA Business Hours: Monday-Friday 9 AM to 5 PM (no holidays/weekends)
I need to renew my NABCEP credential. Which courses are approved?

Many of our courses are approved for NABCEP continuing education, and you’ll see the NABCEP logo next to the courses that are approved. You can find all of our NABCEP-approved courses here. You can also view the recertification and renewal credits for each offering on their course page.

  • See Board Certification Pathways

Additionally, you can search by certification via NABCEP’s Course Catalog.

I’m working towards my NABCEP Board Certification. Which courses do I need to take?

We’ve created suggested course pathways for the NABCEP PV Board Certifications that give you the required hours of Advanced PV Training to meet your exam application requirements.

I’m new to solar. Where do I start?

A great introduction to the electrical field is our (G 108) Working With Electricity course. No prerequisites are required!

Additionally, our Basic Photovoltaics (PV 101) is the first solar course you should take if you’re new to the field, and it’s the prerequisite for many other PV courses.

If you’re interested in obtaining your entry-level solar credential like the NABCEP PV Associate, then our Core Course Package (PV 101-201-202-220) is required. You can take the courses one at a time (sequentially) or sign up for all four courses at once. This program is offered online, or in-person.

What if I don’t complete my online course by the due date?

Some courses (PV 101, 201, 202, & 220) have the option of a two-week extension for an additional $50. If a course is not completed by your assigned due date, full price will be charged to retake the course.

Can I still access my course pages and materials when I’m finished with a course?

You have 30 days after you complete your course to download any materials for future use, as well as your Completion Certificate via your student dashboard. MREA retains course records for all students. If you need a copy of your transcript or Certificate of Completion after the 30 days have passed please email courses@midwestrenew.org to receive a copy of your Certificate of Completion or course records.

How will I know what grade I’m getting or how I’m doing in my online course?

The MREA does not give letter grades. If you complete all of the required activities in the course by your assigned due date, Canvas will automatically generate your completion certificate and you are marked as PASS in our records. You can message your instructor anytime or request a Zoom meeting via Canvas if you have any questions or concerns.

Can I register someone else (or a group of people) for a course?

Yes! Our learning management system makes it easy for you to purchase course(s) for others. When you have found the course or program you’d like to purchase for your group or someone else, click the Bulk Enrollment icon next to the course or program you would like to select multiple enrollments for and follow the prompts to complete the order. Questions or issues? Contact courses@midwestrenew.org

We offer a 10% discount on registrations for groups of five or more for our online courses. Please contact the MREA at courses@midwestrenew.org to receive your discount code prior to registering your group. For more information on group rates visit our Custom Group Training page for more information

I just registered for a course. What happens next? How do I access my course materials?

When you registered for the course, you created a Canvas account (username & password). You will receive an email notification from notifications@instructure.com with a link to access your student dashboard and start working on your course (online).

You can access your student dashboard anytime by logging into courses.midwestrenew.org, and selecting “Student Dashboard” from the dropdown menu.

Once registered for online course(s), students must begin the coursework within 30 days to retain access.
