This Spring, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary-designee Amy Pechacek visited our headquarters and training facility in Custer, WI to discuss MREA’s efforts to help meet the employment needs of the solar industry by connecting employers with MREA students.
In March, Wisconsin recorded its lowest unemployment rate at 2.8%. Solar companies are scrambling to find qualified solar professionals to keep up with demand. The State Department of Workforce Development is working with organizations like MREA to help bridge the gap — and train more workers for solar jobs.

MREA’s Rise Up Scholarship grants awardees free, entry-level solar training through MREA, as well as the opportunity to attain their NABCEP PV Associate Credential. Recipients will also be encouraged to apply for a select number of paid solar internships.
Candidates must fit one or more of the following descriptions below:
- unemployed
- underemployed
- formerly incarcerated
- those aged 18-25
- BIPOC
MREA Core Course Offerings
A great place to start in the solar industry is the NABCEP PV Associate Program. This is an entry-level credential that qualifies an individual to design, sell, install, or maintain systems in a supervised capacity. MREA has three core courses that are required to become eligible to sit for the NABCEP PV Associate exam.
