The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) is proud to announce that the Solar on Schools grant application period is now open through April 18, 2025. Supported by the Couillard Solar Foundation, Solar on Schools grants provide public Wisconsin K-12 schools and colleges access to an in-kind module grant, valued up to $20,000.
Since its launch in 2019, Solar on Schools has helped dozens of schools reinvest savings into brighter futures for Wisconsin K-12 students. To date, the program has installed 5,791 kW of solar on Wisconsin schools with grant recipients ranging from elementary schools to technical colleges.
In addition to funding PV installations, Solar on Schools provides valuable resources for students, school staff, and community groups to encourage solar advocacy and involvement. By educating school communities on the economic and environmental benefits of renewable energy, Solar on Schools fosters greater awareness of the positive impact solar installations can have for Wisconsin public school districts.
“Engaging students and including student participation on project planning teams can not only be impactful for students but is also a great way to gain support from leadership, parents, and the school community,” says Waugh. “Through developing objectives and planning together, the planning team can communicate to all school community stakeholders a comprehensive plan for the financial, instructional and environmental impact transitioning to solar can have for the district.”
Applicants are eligible to apply for one grant per district installing solar and must be able to install their PV system within 12 months of being awarded the grant. To learn more about the grant and apply, visit midwestrenew.org/solar-on-schools/#grant.
