The Rural Renewable Energy Alliance (RREAL) is being recognized for 2018 Energy and Climate award from the Environmental Initiative for their Community Solar for Community Action (CS4CA) project.
Working with RREAL, under the US DOE Solar in Your Community Challenge, the MREA co-authored the Leech Lake Case Study Report that analyzed the environmental, social and economics produced by the five community-based solar arrays (217.6 kW) now producing clean renewable energy for recipients of energy assistance served by the Leech Lake Energy Assistance Program.
Using the innovative CS4CA model, RREAL, Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, the MREA and others are demonstrating a way to bring community-based clean, renewable energy to households receiving energy assistance. The MREA is proud to work with partners like RREAL seeking to promote access to community-based solar energy servicing low-income households.
